177 Mile Charity Hike

Join the charity hike: Gareth Davies Hikes 177 Miles to Raise Funds for Woody’s Lodge

Enthusiastic about making a difference and fuelled by a love for a challenge, Denbighshire resident Gareth Davies is embarking on an exhilarating journey on Offa’s Dyke Path to raise crucial funds for Woody’s Lodge. Dubbed “Project_ODP,” this intrepid adventurer will trek by foot from Chepstow, a picturesque town in southeast Wales, to the sun-soaked resort town of Prestatyn in North Wales. With a distance that’s nothing short of awe-inspiring – a whopping 177 miles – Gareth will begin his journey on April 8th and reach the finish line in just 11 days.

Are you ready to be swept away by his courageous and ambitious spirit?

Determination & Zeal

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Gareth to uncover the inspiration behind his incredible fundraising initiative and why he selected Woody’s Lodge as his charity of choice.

As Gareth shared his story, we couldn’t help but feel awed by his determination and zeal.

“This charity hike has been swirling around in my mind for some time, until one day, I finally decided to take the leap and do it right,” he explained.

With that, the wheels were set in motion, and most of the planning took place while strolling with his beloved furry friend.

Why Woody’s Lodge?

Gareth is a true lover of hiking and the great outdoors and is now channeling his ardour into a noble cause for Woody’s Lodge.

“The reason I chose to support Woody’s Lodge veteran charity is deeply personal. My family and friends have served in the military, and my wife’s family has a strong connection with the Royal Air Force (RAF) and Royal Navy.”

As an avid supporter of military charities in the past, Gareth wants to make a meaningful impact on his local community this time around.

“I knew that Woody’s Lodge would be the perfect fit for me, as their efforts truly make a difference in the lives of veterans and their families.”

Donate Now: Join Us in Making a Difference for Veterans in Need

We couldn’t be more honoured to witness Gareth’s heartfelt mission to give back to those who have served our country. To rally behind the cause, we’re calling on you to join us in supporting Gareth’s incredible journey by donating to his GoFundMe page or his Just Giving page. Every single contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a significant impact on the lives of veterans experiencing hardship.

Follow the Journey

Gareth will not only tackle the already arduous 177-mile journey, but an additional 13 miles will be added walking to and from his campsite each day. That’s a staggering total of 190 miles! And if that’s not enough, Gareth won’t have a support crew and will be carrying everything he needs to camp along the way, with a whopping 20 kgs of kit on his back.

Can you imagine averaging 19 miles a day on foot with all that weight? This is a true test of resilience and perseverance, and we can only imagine the strength and willpower it takes to complete such a feat.

The intrepid adventurer is inviting people to join him for some of the route, walking alongside him and showing your support for the cause. Even if you can only join him for a small portion, every bit of encouragement counts. And don’t worry, there’s no pressure to raise funds, your presence alone will be an incredible boost for Gareth. While he won’t have a support crew following him along the way, his wife will meet him at some finish points on certain days to allow him to resupply if needed and swap any clothes depending on the weather. However, Gareth will still need to be self-sufficient for the most part, so any help or support from others will be greatly appreciated.

But that’s not all – we’re calling on everyone to come together and create a BIG start at Chepstow and an even BIGGER finish at Prestatyn. Let’s give Gareth the send-off and homecoming he deserves and make it a truly unforgettable experience.
