Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity

Here at Woody’s Lodge, we are pleased to announce that we have now been granted two sources of funding from the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity in partnership with Greenwich Hospital!

The first round of funding will allow us to actively engage with the Royal Navy & Royal Marine veterans community in South East and West Wales, as well as enabling greater access to our social, signposting and support facilities.

We want to enable the ex-servicemen/women currently linked to Royal Navy and Royal Marine Associations in South East and West Wales to engage with us here Woody’s Lodge as well as ensuring that we’re accessible to the wider Royal Navy & Royal Marines community.

The most recent round of funding, will enable the continuation and expansion of their comprehensive support project, “Hearts of Oak,” across Wales.

What this Funding means for Woody’s

The first project funded by the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity in partnership with Greenwich Hospital, we will proactively engage with the ex-Royal Navy and Royal Marines community within South East and West Wales with the introduction of 2 Activity Officers.

Woody’s Lodge Community Engagement Manager and Activity Officers will act as an intermediary to engage with the current Royal Navy and Royal Marines Association in South East and West Wales to offer their current members the use of Woody’s Lodge facilities and our support services at Amelia Trust Farm in Barry, as well as our Drop-in Centres across South and West Wales.

Using local veteran’s networks already in place, as well as referral systems with our partnership agencies working in South East and West Wales, our Community Engagement Manager will work to engage with Royal Navy/Royal Marine Veterans and their families.

We will also work as referral partners to the ‘Family in Crisis Team’ based at University Hospital of Wales – Cardiff. In addition, we’re looking to develop our monthly Partner and Children Lunches into more family engagement activity days. We will also work with SSCE, using farm and outdoor day and weekend activities at our Amelia Trust Farm location for Service Children, by coordinating these activities for Royal Navy & Royal Marine’s children, it will enable the children to meet and socialise with their service peers.

This funding will allow us to offer our services, providing support and signposting to Royal Navy & Royal Marines veterans and their families in the South East and West Wales area.

The more recently secured grant of £39,600 through the RNRMC Greenwich Hospital fund will facilitate the ongoing and expanded implementation of their comprehensive support project, “Hearts of Oak,” throughout Wales.

Over the past three years, Woody’s Lodge has forged successful collaborations with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines community and affiliated organizations in Wales. With the newly acquired funding, Woody’s Lodge seeks to broaden its impact by initiating an ambitious heritage project tailored for both serving and veteran RNRM personnel.

The project employs a multifaceted approach to address the unique challenges veterans encounter during their transition to civilian life. Emphasizing the improvement of mental and physical health, enhancement of employment opportunities, and facilitation of community integration, the initiative aims to make a positive impact on the lives of RNRM personnel.
