Welsh Three Peaks Fundraising Challenge
The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust

We are delighted that we have been awarded four major Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust grants: ‘Positive Pathways’, ‘Removing Barriers to Family Life’, ‘Blue Beacon’ and lastly ‘Veterans in Care’ that will enable us to significantly develop our work across Wales over the next 2 years!

These grants have been awarded to us from The Covenant Fund, which is delivered by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. Their grants and funding benefit those from the Armed Forces Community, including serving personnel, families, veterans and the families of veterans.

The first grant is called ‘Removing Barriers to Family Life’ and it’s purpose is to support Armed Forces Families facing challenges. This funding will allow Woody’s to significantly extend our support to the wider Veteran and Armed Forces Family including: Partners, Children, Carers, and their community (which includes friends and peers) of all ages. If you’re a veteran or the family member of a veteran, get in touch with Woody’s Lodge to see what support we can offer you and your family.

Whilst the second grant ‘Positive Pathways’ funds projects that develop and run activities that support the mental health and wellbeing of ex-Forces. With this funding, we are developing a new project called ‘The Green, Green Grass of Home’, where we will bring veterans and their families together in green and natural settings to help them reconnect in a neutral space. Find out more about our Green, Green Grass of Home project here.

The third grant, ‘Blue Beacon’ is a project that aims to is to address the root causes of veterans reoffending, facilitating their successful reintegration into civilian life. Woody’s Lodge will leverage this funding to initiate a series of targeted interventions, focusing on veterans across various age groups, including those under 25 and over 65.

Lastly, the “Veterans in Care” initiative, led by Woody’s Lodge in collaboration with organizations like Age Cymru, is a pioneering project. Its primary focus is on engaging elderly veterans, particularly those who served during National Service, through the facilitation of veteran-specific groups within care homes or by transporting them to Woody’s hubs and drop-in centers.

Spanning two years, this project is specifically designed for veterans aged 65 and above residing in both local authority and private care homes. Its objectives include providing veteran-specific group sessions, establishing the role of Elderly Veterans Peer Mentors, and offering a variety of activities ranging from art sessions to tea dances. These activities are tailored not only to enhance mental health and wellbeing but also to nurture a sense of community among veterans. Additionally, the project will extend its support to veterans living at home with dementia, along with their spouses or carers.

With these four grants, we are looking forward to being able to significantly extend the support we offer our veterans, emergency service leavers and their families.
