Therapeutic support in an outstanding care farm
Located in the spectacular South Wales county of Vale of Glamorgan is the countryside sanctuary of Amelia Trust Farm. Since 2018, we have called this place home, and we love it so much, we decided to join as a partner. It offers so much beauty, kindness and serenity. It is the perfect location for us to network and connect with communities. This ultimately helps us touch the lives of more people!
Acres of possibilities
The farm stretches a colossal 160 acres and is teeming with farm animals, wildlife and breathtaking natural spaces. Its sheer size makes it possible to organise unique and creative initiatives. What’s more, it is central to several impoverished communities that need our help. It is a lifeline for so many people who are at critical points in their lives and need support. Therefore, Woody’s Lodge at Amelia Trust Farm holds a special place in our hearts, and we will continue to help these communities in any way possible.
We share this space with another inspiring charity organisation that is also a partner, known as The Innovate Trust’s Field Days Project. It specialises in adults with learning disabilities.
Those who made it possible
In 1990, Bob and Ethel Huggard donated this land to the Amelia Methodist Trust Company Limited. The goal was to create a countryside sanctuary open to everyone to enjoy. They also wanted a living memorial for Bob’s mother, Amelia. Alongside its welcoming spirit, it had a bigger vision to help vulnerable and disadvantaged young people who found mainstream education challenging.
Decades later, this vision remains. The farm works with youth between the ages 11 and 16 who struggle in a traditional classroom setting due to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and ADHD or abuse and neglect. They have the opportunity to gain skills, confidence, experience and improve their employment prospects. Everyone, no matter their background, is given a chance to succeed and live their best lives.
The Methodist Church in Wales assisted the Huggards in bringing this vision to life. The church continues to support the farm and is active trustees and volunteers. Inspired by the incredible work done at the Amelia Trust Farm, Woody’s Lodge wanted to be a part of the vision and join the community that made it all possible. As a result, we moved here in the summer of 2018 and never looked back! We believe the ethos and aspirations encapsulated in the farm are similar to ours. And this makes it the perfect location for us to grow and support more Veterans, ex-members of the Emergency Services, and their families.
Memorable experiences at Amelia Trust Farm
Woody’s Lodge is in the heart of unspoiled nature and has plenty of opportunities to soak up the natural environment. It boasts dense woodlands, leafy fitness and animal trails, rustic campsites and charming picnic spots. These attractions allow us to plan exciting adventures and get-togethers in the great outdoors. We also have access to a conference centre and sports hall to host meetings, gatherings, events or just catch-up sessions. Additionally, the farm has a 19-bed bunkhouse where we can plan unique overnight stays.
Another special aspect is that it is home to 20 species of farm animals and wildlife. Some include horses, donkeys, ponies, alpacas, ferrets and pigs. The farm cares for animals and ensures they have all the love in the world. Those who visit us can spot these incredible animals and observe them in their natural habitat, making it ideal if you have children. Your little ones can also enjoy an educational Animal Centre and green play areas. Visit Woody’s Lodge at Amelia Trust Farm and make it a fun day for the whole family!
