New Veterans Drop-in Launches in Pontypridd: Woody’s Lodge in collaboration with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council

To our amazing Welsh Veterans, have you heard of the new Woody’s Lodge Veterans Support Hub in Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taf County? It’s a welcoming meeting space for you to access a whole range of services and connect with the county’s Armed Forces community, which is home to more than 7,500 Armed Forces veterans.

You’re welcome every Saturday morning

The new support hub is located in Bowls Pavilion at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park. Doors open every Saturday from 10.30am to12.30pm. It joins already established Veterans support groups in the county, including Rhondda, Rhydyfelin and Mountain Ash. Pontypridd is the only hub open on a Saturday unlike other drop-ins open during the week. It’s for those unable to attend group meetings during the day due to family or work commitments or travel restrictions, giving us an opportunity to reach more communities and help more Veterans in need who were previously unable to access our services. This drop-in has been made possible through AFCFT V4P funding and the support of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.

Supported by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council

The new Woody’s Lodge Veterans drop-in was made possible thanks to the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, the governing body for Rhondda Cynon Taf (South-East Wales), representing the third largest population of veterans per local authority in Wales. The Council’s commitment to the Armed Forces community is extensive, having been one of the first in Wales to sign the Armed Forces Covenant back in 2012.

Words from Councillor Maureen

In a press release, Councillor Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Deputy Leader and Armed Forces Champion, said the Council is “delighted” to welcome Woody’s Lodge to the County Borough to assist the invaluable Armed Forces community here.

She added some kind words about our charity:

“Woody’s Lodge also does tremendous work in supporting the Armed Forces community, which is why it is a huge honour to have the charity working side-by-side with us.”

A big thank you

In response to Councillor Maureen and the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, Woody’s Lodge would like to thank you for welcoming us into this incredible community and providing us with the access, support, and resources to deliver essential services to more Veterans. Your help has allowed us to spread awareness of our services and reach more communities in dire need of assistance after serving our beautiful Welsh nation. Thank you once again!

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council: Champion of the Armed Forces community

The Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is doing amazing work in the Armed Forces community, offering support and guidance for Veterans and their families 52 weeks a year and accommodating an ever-increasing number of weekly attendees across Rhondda Cynon Taf support hubs.

The Council’s most recent project provides access to mobile tablets for Veterans to access vital services online and keep in touch with each other. It’s made possible with the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust and is part of the bigger Veterans Connected project. The Council’s Armed Forces Veterans Service has a stock of 80 tablets, which they can rent at any time at no charge and with free Wi-Fi connectivity.
