Steve Owen is an Army veteran, amputee, and dedicated charity advocate from Cardigan, Ceredigion, West Wales. Steve served with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers when his vehicle was struck by an IED during a mission in Afghanistan. Though he initially survived the 2010 explosion with his body intact, the injuries he sustained led to years of chronic pain and health complications with his leg. After enduring prolonged suffering, Steve made the difficult decision to undergo amputation of his left leg in 2016.

Since his injury, Steve has transformed his experience into a mission to support fellow veterans and amputees. Steve actively participates in outdoor pursuits, and seeks opportunities to support other veterans and amputees through speaking engagements with other agencies.

Known for his remarkable endurance and determination, Steve has completed numerous extraordinary challenges. He has walked 85 miles across Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire to raise awareness of Woody’s Lodge and Pilgrim Bandits, and undertaken the gruelling challenge of walking 457 laps of a 400-metre running track to honour fallen Afghan heroes and raise money for the children they left behind, supporting Scotty’s Little Soldiers charity.

Most recently, Steve walked 100 miles from Cardigan to Cardiff Castle in 52 hours and completed 100km in 24 hours, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to supporting veterans and their families.

Born and raised in Cardigan, Steve continues to call West Wales home while dedicating his life to ensuring no veteran faces life’s challenges alone.
