Meet Alan Jones, our newest team member at Woody’s Lodge. Born in Essex but raised in Northamptonshire, Alan spent most of his childhood playing rugby for school, club, and county teams. Drawn to the physical nature of the sport and the team ethic it fosters, the sports enthusiast decided to pursue a career that continued along those lines. In 1999, at the age of 16, Alan joined the Royal Marines as a junior marine. He went on to serve with 42 Commando RM, Diego Garcia, and the United Kingdom Landing Force Command Support Group, seeing operational service in Sierra Leone, Northern Ireland, and Iraq.
After leaving the Royal Marines, Alan worked in the maritime sector, where he was responsible for assessing risks and implementing anti-piracy security measures for commercial shipping vessels transiting through high-risk areas of the southern Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and the wider Indian Ocean region.
He has also held a management position at a secure care mental health facility, where he managed physical activity and reduced sedentary time for over 600 patients. After witnessing the impact that Woody’s Lodge has had for veterans in Wales, Alan was eager to join the team and help support the veteran community in any way possible.
We are thrilled to have him on board at Woody’s Lodge, and we know that his experience and dedication will be a valuable asset to our team.
