Staying Connected at Woody’s Lodge
Did you know that there’s almost 300-million of us worldwide turning to Zoom daily to stay connected since COVID-19 lockdown restrictions were introduced back in March? Whether it’s for work or personal use, so many of us have turned to a variety of video-conferencing platforms such as Skype, Microsoft Teams and Zoom. From keeping in touch with family through quizzes and ‘Virtual Hangouts’ or maybe you’ve gone from working in an office to working at home.
We’ve found Zoom to be the easiest video-conferencing software and has been key to staying connected for many of us! So like everyone else, at Woody’s, we’ve also relied on video-conferencing, from our team meetings to replacing our weekly Veteran Drop-In Centres with Zoom calls; Zoom has been vital in ensuring that we’re still here for our veterans and their families. It’s definitely taken some adjustment and it’s not the same as being able to able to sit down for a brew and a bit of banter, but it’s been the best thing we could’ve hoped for in these challenging times.
As lockdown and social distancing restrictions continue to be enforced, we have had to close our main sites in Barry and Colwyn Bay, as well as keeping our Veteran Drop-in Centres closed. Good news is that our Penlan Farm, West Wales will be re-opening from Wednesday with COVID-19 restrictions in place. No matter what, our team are here for you! Our team are working as hard as they can to ensure that our veterans, emergency service leavers and their families are supported as best we can.

We have also partnered with a local initiative ‘Need to Feed’, which ensures those who might struggle to access food are able to eat, find out more about Need to Feed and Woodys here.
We know things are really challenging right now, but our team are here to support you! Woody’s Lodge is a communications and social hub for veterans of the armed forces and emergency services, along with their families. We provide safe spaces for armed service veterans, recent leavers, reservists and those who served in the emergency services to socialise and access a wide range of health and social services.
