Living with MS

Congratulations to Nigel, winner of BT Openreach Community Connectors Award!

Here at Woody’s Lodge, we are absolutely delighted to congratulate Nigel Hughes for winning a BT Openreach Community Connectors Award! Many of you will know Nigel or have met his wife, Karen, who’s one of the Trustees here at Woody’s Lodge. Nigel was nominated by Rt Hon Alun Cairns, MP for the Vale of Glamorgan, for his dedication to his community.

We couldn’t be more proud of Nigel! Some of you may know that Nigel has MS and walking is increasingly difficult for him. However, he embarked on a massive challenge to Walk a Mile back in the summer of 2020. It took him three months and he has raised over £10,000 for Woody’s Lodge! If you’d like to hear what Nigel has to say about winning this amazing award, take a look here. You can also hear from Rt Hon Alun Cairns and his reasons for nominating Nigel!

BT Openreach say:
We’re delighted to be able to announce the recipients of our Community Connectors Awards. These individuals & groups, have and continue to provide vital support in their communities, including for those who’re particularly vulnerable.

We are all so proud of you Nigel and can’t wait to be able to celebrate when we are open for social days again!

Nigel has MS and has been visiting us at Woody’s since we first opened. Last year, we met with Karen to gain an insight into what it’s like being a carer for a loved one, take a look at their story here.

If you’re a friend or family of a veteran or an Emergency Services leaver and are looking for some help and support through veteran’s family services or perhaps the chance to socialise with others who’ve had a similar experience to yourself, Woody’s Lodge is here to help.
