Adferiad Recovery

A new grant for Woody’s Lodge and partner charities is a big win for veterans’ mental health services

Woody’s Lodge is proud to announce that we can continue reaching our goals thanks to a new grant awarded to our partner charity, Adferiad Recovery, by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.

Over the next two years, we will receive an incredible £80,000 to fund our three welfare offices in North, Mid and South Wales.

Purpose of the grant

According to an article by Adferiad Recovery, the grant will help Woody’s Lodge and 10 other partner charities. Some include TGP Cymru, Links Combined Forces, The Salvation Army and Defence Medical Welfare

The goals of the grant are to:

  • Deliver a range of mental health support services for veterans
  • Establish closer links to other organisations within veterans’ mental health pathways.
  • Help veterans safely connect to pathways that suit their needs
  • Ensure those who support veterans, such as volunteers and staff, have access to training

Woody’s Lodge is grateful to be one of the charity partners who will benefit from the funds.  We know that it will help veterans in so many ways, especially through effective mental health services.

Getting to know Adferiad Recovery

Adferiad Recovery

Adferiad Recovery shares very similar values to us. They help people across Wales who are struggling with mental health issues, substance abuse, and those with complex needs. They are a combination of several other charities that have come together to ultimately help vulnerable people, and their families and carers. The support offered ensures those facing difficult life challenges are provided vital health and wellbeing services to prevent them from becoming disenfranchised and isolated.

Woody’s Lodge gives back to veterans

Woody’s Lodge is also dedicated to helping those in need, but we focus specifically on the Armed Forces community and their families. We have created warm and inviting meeting places across Wales to help veterans and their loved ones get back on track through:

  • Financial advice relating to pension and benefits
  • Housing advice with direct support from Local Authorities ‘Armed Forces Liaison Officers’ (AFLO)
  • Assisting veterans with medical applications for NHS Wales
  • Organising social events to bring veterans and their families together while building new friendships with like-minded people
  • Veteran drop-in centres to socialise or receive support and advice
  • Hosting events, get-togethers and fun activities at three beautiful farms

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust

As mentioned, the grant was kindly awarded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (The Trust). It delivers funding programmes to Armed Forces communities throughout the UK and aims to create real change in the lives of those who once served the nation! Over the years, The Trust has helped to develop and grow Woody’s Lodge into a vibrant space for veterans through life-changing funding such as Positive Pathways and Removing Barriers to Family Life.

A big thank you

We at Woody’s Lodge would like to thank Adferiad Recovery and the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust for helping us further our goals. We are excited to see our partners and their respective communities grow as a result of this incredible support.
