Interview with a Volunteer: Andrew

Here at Woody’s Lodge, we have a team of fantastic volunteers that work hard to offer support to our veterans, emergency service leavers, reservists and their families. Meet a volunteer, Andrew, below!

1. What inspired you to be a volunteer?
I have always enjoyed being around the military and learning about its history. As well as this I wanted to help, encourage and build up those who needed it.

2. Tell us a brief bit about yourself?
I am a devout Christian and have been for over 40 years. I have sung in and out of choirs for nearly 50 years and currently sing for Swansea Gospel Male Voice Choir. I have been married for 32 years to my partner Carol and we have two sons aged 31 & 28.

3. Favourite Woody’s Lodge moment?
When we moved from HMS Cambria to the Amelia Trust Farm, I had not seen anyone for a few weeks and on my first day back I got a hug from Sian, which so far has been my favourite moment.

4. What do you like about volunteering at Woody’s Lodge?
I enjoy meeting new people, chatting and getting to know them and listen to there stories as well as challenging them to a good game of scrabble.

5. What skillset do you bring to Woody’s Lodge?
Knowledge, Empathy & Wisdom… with a dash of modesty!

6. What is your favourite joke?
What do you call a guy with no knees?
Tony!

7. What inspires you to get up in the morning?
This is the day the lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad!

8. What hobbies do you enjoy?
I enjoy reading historical novels, crime fiction, thrillers and military books. I also enjoy reading about new languages such as German & French.

9. Which branch of the Armed Forces would you have liked to have joined?
